Your Google profile is what Gemini reads.
Gemini is grounded directly in Google Maps, so your profile is a source it answers from. ChatGPT and Perplexity build their local answers from pages they retrieve on the web instead. That makes profile work a lever on one engine by a route the other two do not share, and it changes what you should expect it to move.
One profile, three different routes into an answer.
Google Maps is a database Gemini can query. Your hours, your categories and your service area arrive there as facts. The other two assistants have to find the same facts on a page someone has published, which is why a correct profile can sit beside a ChatGPT answer that still carries your old address.
So we do two separate things. We keep the profile correct for Gemini and the map pack, and we ask each assistant what it thinks your address and hours are. An assistant answering with a former address has a stale-data problem, and the fix for that is correcting the pages it read, not writing new ones.
SOCi’s 2026 Local Visibility Index reports profile accuracy at 68% on ChatGPT and Perplexity against 100% on Gemini. Their sample is multi-location brands, so read it as the shape of the split rather than as a figure for a single-site business.
Six fields, kept correct as the business changes.
A profile is filled in once and then goes stale, because the business keeps moving and the profile does not. We hold these six current for as long as you are on the plan.
- Your primary category, read off the map pack. The businesses above you share one Google category. We read theirs and tell you what yours should be.
- Service area drawn to where you sell. A service area set to the whole city competes you against the whole city. We draw it to the suburbs you can reach.
- Services and attributes written out in full. Every service you offer, listed as its own entry with its own description, because an empty field is a question Gemini answers from somewhere else.
- Hours that survive a public holiday. We keep special hours loaded ahead of the dates, so an assistant asked on Good Friday gets your answer rather than a guess.
- Photos dated this month. We keep current photos going up, so the profile reads as a business someone is still running.
- Your area coverage, measured monthly. A geo-grid of your suburb, run every month, so you can see which streets you are winning and which you are missing.
Profile work runs inside the ongoing plan, $400/mo. The audit prices separately and tells you what is wrong before you commit to anyone fixing it.
Questions about the profile.
- Does my Google Business Profile affect what ChatGPT says about me?
- Indirectly at best. Gemini is grounded in Google Maps, so your profile reaches it fairly directly. ChatGPT and Perplexity build their local answers from pages they retrieve on the open web, so your profile reaches them only where a page they read has copied it. Fixing the profile is the right first move for Gemini and for the map pack; getting named in ChatGPT is a different job.
- Which Google category should a small business choose?
- The one the businesses already ranking above you in the map pack have chosen. Google's primary category is the strongest single lever on which searches you are eligible for, and the businesses winning those searches have already worked it out. We read their profiles and tell you what yours should say.
- What is a geo-grid, and why does my ranking change street by street?
- Google decides map results partly on where the searcher is standing, so one business can hold the top spot on one street and be off the list four blocks away. A geo-grid checks the same search from a lattice of points around your address, which turns one ranking into a map of where you are showing up and where you are missing.

The audit reads your profile against the businesses ranking above you, and tells each assistant's answer apart from the next.
