How do I know if ChatGPT mentions my business?
You find out by asking the question a customer would ask, in the assistant itself, and reading whether your name appears in the answer. Phrase it the way a buyer does, for example best electrician in Subiaco, rather than typing your business name: a model handed your name and repeating it back has told you nothing. Ask the same question several times, because two runs return different businesses and one run is an anecdote. Then check the second thing, which is harder than the first: whether the answer used your website as a source, or named you from memory. Being mentioned and being cited are different results, and only one of them you can influence quickly.

Do it yourself in ten minutes
Write down the five questions a customer would type before choosing someone in your category. Ask each one in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI answers. Record whether your name appeared and whether a link to your site appeared underneath. Repeat the whole set on another day. What you now have is a rate rather than an impression.
Mentioned and cited are two results
A mention means a model produced your name, usually from training data, and training data updates on a scale of months. A citation means the engine fetched your site while answering and used it. The second responds to work on your site in weeks; the first does not. Reporting them as one number hides which of the two moved.
What to check on your own site first
Whether your robots file allows the answer-engine crawlers by name, including the retrieval crawlers that are separate from the training ones. Whether your pages state plainly what you do and where. Whether the claims on them appear anywhere a model could corroborate. A site that blocks the fetcher cannot be cited by it, whatever else is true.
