Is SEO dead now with AI?

SEO still works, and answer engines added a second place to be found alongside the first. Both run on the same foundation: a page an automated reader can fetch, parse and quote. What changed is how the answer reaches the person. A search result hands them a link to click. An answer engine names two or three businesses inside a paragraph, and a business named fourth is a business nobody sees. So the two need measuring separately, because a site can rank on page one and be absent from every answer about its own category. Most of the technical work that fixes one helps the other, which is why they are sold together here rather than as rival services.

What changed

The mechanics of being findable barely moved. Crawlable pages, honest structure, a clear statement of what the business does and where it does it. What moved is the shape of the result: a list of ten links became a paragraph naming a few businesses, and a paragraph has far fewer slots than a page of results.

Why they are measured apart

A ranking is a position on a page you can screenshot. A citation is whether a model named you, and the same question asked twice returns different businesses, so one run proves nothing. Ranking is checked by position. Answer-engine presence is checked by running a fixed panel repeatedly and reading the rate.

The part people get wrong

Asking an assistant about your own business by name and seeing it answer is not evidence of anything. A model repeating a proper noun back from the question it was just handed is the easiest result in the set. The question that matters is the one a customer types, which does not contain your name.
